evil plans = manuscripts

that's right folks. you gotta work on those evil plans non stop, going over them again and again.you have to refine them and revise them until they are as smooth as silk and run like a swiss watch. hey wait, evil plans are like manuscripts!! I think that's a fair comparison. evil geniuses probably feel the same way about their plans as writers feel about their stories. they love them and desperately want them to succeed. and, sometimes evil plans are shared with important people(those out to thwart them) too soon thus dooming them.
hmmm, I never thought about that. the solution for success or a better shot at success is waiting. always wait until the evil plan/ manuscript is ready and don't tell anyone until you are sure it's absolutely ready.

I love my boots my boots and me!

here's what I'm wanting in my life right now. a spiffy new pair of mucking boots. there are some yucky jobs when you live in the country and have animals and I'd love these from the muck boot company. sigh. currently I wear a pair of plain old red boots but these just take the cake. I'd also like some new hips. not slimmer ones but some non arthritic, non hurting ones but I'm more likely to get my boots!

ahhh yeah... I just love this pic. any one who can smile like that can pretty much get whatever he wants. that's confidence. it's a look that just lets you know that he is completely in charge. I try and infuse what that look means in my mc, Eamon. now, while he can generate a look like that I want him to have weaknesses, even if he is a vampire. I think it makes him more likable and more dimensional.  I'm channeling Elana Johnson's post on her blog this am. if he was all this look(and I'm not saying that's a bad thing) he'd be a very flat character and not very interesting at all. you'd throw the book down and never read it again.

no soda or cookies...what was I thinking?

I have given up cookies and soda(gasp!) but somehow I am maintaining. actually my mood has improved dramatically. I guess I'm adjusting to the reduced caffeine and sugar intake. For the first time in probably 4 years I am properly hydrated(or close to it). Yay me. But I have to say that I still long for sodas when I see them and cookies call me by name when close. someone brought cookies to us at work saturday and I didn't eat any of them. torture. so now with all of this clarity I can move forward on the two projects I am working on. More specifically, the sequel to Life in Moonlight.

what would Eamon do

so Eamon, Lauryl, Amelie and the gang went off via email to UBER EDITOR Claire Eddy at Tor today and I am scared poopless. I feel like a 16 year old girl who called her ultimate crush and left him a message asking him out. Now the torture of waiting to hear. no sense in ruminating over it because it will either stand on its own or not. I like it and she must have liked it to a)remember it from the contest she judged and I won and b)feel like I might have something in it and c)ask for the full via email. Tor is an AWESOME imprint. I love their books.
I'll just have to channel some of Eamon's stoicism and confidence for the next few months while I wait and review the contract from the e publisher who wants to publish Life in Moonlight. I really have been blessed lately!

theft at the tractor supply store

I swear every time I think the world is a great place I get a sampling of the opposite. today some douche bag stole my wallet. it only had 24 dollars in it so basically they sold their soul for 24 bucks. I can't believe it. well, I mean I can because a couple of years ago I lost my cell phone and some guy like 40 miles away said it bought it in a yard sale and wanted to know if I wanted it back. meh. so now on monday I will begin the horrible task of getting replacements for my drivers license, both maddy and my social security card, my insurance cards. my nursing license, and whatever else was in there. sigh. I'll just have to rely on karma to take care of this.

have you ever had a problem that you never dreamed would or could be a problem? well I do. I'm in a strange position with my novel and I am undecided about what to do. I think I am just going to have to do some serious thinking about it. I thought it would be an AWESOME thing but it is something the opposite.
anyway, about my ereader... I love it. I'm whispering that because I was such a nay sayer about them. I called them the end of humanity as we know it. I had it confirmed when an ultra erudite, german theatre professor at school got one. I knew if some one as died in the wool pro book, primary source would buy one then we were all doomed to fall in line. I do love it. I can now take my books anywhere and I can download them quickly. although I still wait to read them a few days because I'm not giving in to the instant gratification thing.

the editor interview approacheth!

so yeah, my interview with the editor is RAPIDLY approaching and I got nothing. I'm so afraid that I am going to walk in and draw a big fat blank. I've shined up my 3 line pitch, distilled what my novel is about and feel like I know my market but I still feel unprepared. HATE THAT! maybe because I have no idea of what to expect. I know she's just a person but this is the closest I have come to a publishing professional and I'm nervous.
it's really funny because I've met celebrities, been on national TV, spoken in front of huge crowds, been in court and done all kinds of other scary things but this is by far the scariest. it is like a first date to the millionth power.

OMG nooooo!technology!!!!!

well it's officially the end of humanity as we know it. I now own an e reader. a sweet, PINK sony e reader. and to add insult to injury, I bought it from crap mart. I have a serious issue with that store and its policies but that's another story for another day. I fought buying one of these little toys because I LOVE books. I love the entire experience of reading a book. the feel of it, the smell of the paper, how you can dog ear you favorite pages. sigh. but I caved in and bought one. I'll slap a Chairman Meow sticker on it and think deep thoughts but I just wanted everyone to know that humanity was crashing to an end. that's what that giant thud was.
BTW the e reader's name is bubbles.

I won!I won!I WON!

this week had shaped up to be less than exciting until last night. I was reading my email and saw an email from a writing contest that I had entered. at first I thought, why are they writing me?I know I didn't win. but I opened it. apparently I did win.my submission placed first in the paranormal romance category! my eyes bugged out and I re read the email 8 times. somehow it slipped through the cracks and I didn't get notified. my submission did win and was sent to the senior editor at TOR/FORGE. SQUEE! the editor had very kind things to say about my work and I felt totally validated. I wish she could have read my revised edition but hey, I am just thrilled with the outcome.Yay, me! maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for Eamon and Lauryl.

things seen around my place

for those who don't know it, I live in a rural southern town. let your mind wander. some of the things I see and hear around my house are...interesting. in the past month I have seen:


A herd of 7 deer drinking at our pond. 1 buck 4 doe and 2 fawn.
2 rather large hawks nesting
some crazy looking big bird swim walking in our pond
a bunch of coyotes in our front yard
the guy down the road doing wheelies on his 4 wheeler. yeah. wheelies. and it's a hard road too.
some dude pull on to our property and steal the pine cones out of the yard.
a woodpecker about 12 inches high. the dang thing was HUGE!even the cat left it alone.
a stop sign that has a sticker underneath the word STOP that reads Hammer Time!
the 20 turtles that live in our pond sun on the bank and then bolt like race runners when we appear
and a pair of lovely cardinals who made a nest in our hedge by our grill.

 I really love living in the country. it's not really the country but its acreage and it's far away from people. I like privacy and don't want anyone running up on us. for good or for bad my town is nice enough to call home. our walmart shows up on people of walmart  way too often, the patients I take care of at work sometimes are straight out of My Name is Earl and we even have a cult. so there you go.

I wish a had a picture of the guy doing wheelies on the 4 wheeler. no one believes me.

when in doubt, dream about AR

the reason I wrote that is because last night I dreamed about sitting at a table in a restaurant next to AR and he ate a grilled cheese sandwich and apple pie. I didn't speak to him or anything. although I did do the girl gasp when I saw it was him. you know which one. by some miracle I got him to sign the t shirt I was wearing too. I know what he ate because someone in the dream asked me what he ate and I told them. some how I doubt that he eats that but who knows. maybe. it sounds good to me.
I have been mired in rewrites and edits and the like.they're done for now(yay) and I am thinking about my next WIP which might kick the sequel to Prim off to the side. I got the idea for this after having a heated discussion about university fund raising with a friend. then, like a lightening bolt, it hit me. I got so excited! I wrote down all the rough points but then drew a blank on where to set the dang thing without having big people mad at me. I figured it out and my new characters are already talking to me. exciting! I might actually write something that my mom would read. I mean, she'd read prim because she's my mom but when I ran the quick synopsis by her she said she'd read it. she also now thinks that I was truly a madam in a past life.

they call me the head hopper

yeah okay that has nothing to do with the pic of delish Sam Neill but hey, there you go. I go by many names. some printable and some not but apparently a name I could go by is the head hopper. I love to head hop in my writing and that's bad. or at least to the publishing world. I myself like to know what everyone is thinking so it's not.lol. part of my revising was eliminating all of the stinking head hopping I did. I said goodbye to almost 2 thousand words. that's bad. this might explain some of my rejections on partials and fulls. man, I wish I could back up time and start again.
I wish head hopping wasn't so bad. not because it would have saved me countless hours or whatever but because like I said before, I love to know what people are thinking for good or for bad. maybe in an alternate universe it won't be so bad but until Dr Kaku builds his worm hole space ship to that alternate universe, I'm stuck with the rules. (love you rules!) hey and also that space ship can take me to Sam Neill and Alan Rickman!

I've been giving my characters a lot of thought this week. I had a crummy week and my characters are like really cool friends for me. their hijinks and adventures give me a break. I can close my eyes and hear them. or I can imagine scenes from the book. I'm also mapping out chapters for the sequel. although, I think I will have a bunch of cutting because my ideas are getting away from me. auuggg. I hate cutting things from a manuscript. it's like taking part of their life away. my people need their lives. if I can't have an exciting life they can, right?
