I've come to the conclusion that I apparently dress like a hipster. yes, I have a wardrobe of jeans and witty and obscure t-shirts. I didn't realize this. I was somewhere off being offbeat and awesome and it just happened. I would search for t shirts that were so cool and amusing. you know the ones that you read and have to think about. yeah. crap. being a hipster or dressing like one doesn't work at 42, especially when you start an office job. a job where you can't dress in any of the clothes I have. so I've had to buy a whole new wardrobe full of grown up clothes. :( and I have to wear my hair normal. not that my hair is not normal but I'm betting that purple highlights are a no no. maybe not. we'll see. not that I don't love my new job. so far I do. it's very laid back with nice people and it won't jack up my arm or foot. and the hours are awesome. no more nights weekends or holidays.
it wasn't buying the new clothes or starting the new job in itself that kind of bummed me out. it was that I had to kind of say goodbye to being funky and offbeat. like I had to grow up. maybe I should have started earlier and it wouldn't be so hard. kind of like working night shift. don't start working night shift at my age. your body can't deal with it. but that's beside the point.
oh well, I'll adjust. I'll move on! and I'll find a way to be undercover awesome and different.

I kinda know the feeling. Not a hipster, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to dye my hair fun/crazy colors, and I have to wear a uniform. It's been 3 years, and the urge to put pink highlights in my hair and get something visible pierced has not died.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I completely refuse to believe you're 42.
LOL! Yes, I'm 42. I can't believe it either.
